Standard Variable & Fixed Rate Loans

A fixed-rate loan, as the title suggests, is set at a fixed rate of interest for a specified period – usually one to five years. This gives you the certainty of knowing how much your repayments will be, allowing you to organise your finances without the risk of rising interest rates (for that period). It is worth noting that a fixed-rate option does not benefit from any rate reduction during the fixed period and nearly all lenders have a cap on the maximum amount of extra payments you can make into this account during the fixed period.
